In my sophomore year of college, I decided to apply for the writing minor because I was intrigued. Over time, I had accumulated many frustrations for writing but I had also realized how powerful it could be. There was a greater yearning inside of me to learn more and I thought the minor would be a good opportunity to actually study the craft of writing. Reading personal essays from successful writers helped me understand what it meant to be a great writer. The greater community of writing minors and faculty also showed me that I wasn't alone in my frustrations with writing. Many of them had the same ones. By enveloping me in an environment that was surrounded by writers and writing, the minor forced me to reflect on my own writing habits and appreciate my writing accomplishments.

In total, the beginning of the writing minor helped solidify my appreciation and interest in writing. With this, I could finally picture myself as a potential writer. I wasn't "Jo March" yet but I began to get an inkling of what it meant to be like her.
